Nutritionists say the best way to nourish your body is by eating a healthy, balanced diet.

In two days, you could kick-start your energy levels and launch new, healthier eating habits with a fruit and veg detox.

You’ll feel lighter and brighter with the fruit and veg detox, and by drinking water to plump up the skin and flatten the tummy by beating fluid retention.

WHAT TO EAT:

  • Grapes – cleanse the liver and kidneys
  • Pineapples – break down protein and speeds up digestion
  • Papaya and avocados – can you get these in Sainsburys? Great for body repair and rejuvenation and excellent cleaning properties.
  • Sprouts, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower help the liver
  • Onions and garlic – contain sulphur to help the detox process
  • Watercress, tomatoes, carrots and apples – rich in Vitamins C & E
  • Asparagus – great for liver and kidneys
  • Pak choi  - rich in calcium, folate and carotenoids
  • Beetroot – has antioxidants like betacarotene and zinc, and iron, a good detox for the liver

WHAT ELSE TO EAT:

  • Swap meat for fish and nuts, a great source of protein
  • Swap white bread and white pasta for oats and brown rice for fibre
  • Eat live natural yoghurt to get the bowels moving
  • Drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day and flush out those toxins
  • Ditch tea and coffee (boo!) for herbal teas. Dandelion is a good detoxifier.

HOW TO EAT:

Fruit and veg isn’t obviously appetising – but here’s how to tuck in, with our sample diet.

  • Breakfast – fruit salad topped with oats, yoghurt and honey
  • Lunch – chargrilled vegetables with balsamic vinegar and roasted garlic
  • Dinner – vegetable chilli with brown rice, then lemon sorbet with fresh mango or papaya
  • Snacks – nuts and dried fruit, grapes, vegetable crudités and yoghurt or mint dip
